Gothic mainstream!
From Ukiah, California, Gothic-Pop-Rockers AFI return with the first single off of their new album 'December Underground'. There is quite a possibility that you would've heard this already on the television and music stations all across the globe, however for those of you returning from a trip to Mars, 'Miss Murder' is a catchy little number that starts off with a jolly bass line and then jumps straight into the chorus.
AFI are known for their Gothic routes and 'Miss Murder' is no different. Even Davy Havok's normal high nasal vocals are at his bottom range giving the song a Depeche Mode and Sisters Of Mercy feel to it. The verses however also have the feel of Marilyn Manson with the thumping drums and synthesisers, and although the snarling disgust of Mr Manson is missing, Mr Havok gives a confident authoritative performance nonetheless. Once again produced by Jerry Finn, who has knob-twiddled for the likes of Green Day and Blink 182, you can hear that the sound is polished and smooth.
Having heard some of AFI's previous albums and found them slightly hard to get into, with songs like 'Miss Murder' with is easily accessibility, their new album could pave the way for a whole new generation.
