The calm before the storm?

There is a wave of abysmal music that is being signed up and thrust out into our faces daily whether or not we want it, so it is a shame that a band like Goodbye Sergeants are still awaiting that big break. That said they are causing their own swirls in the big pool of the musical ocean, and having only been together since last December then surly big things are going to happen!

The 'Boy Band' EP is made up of three songs all recorded live, or as main man Rich Keeble modestly suggests, "..Banged out live with no click tracks or obvious talent!"

First song 'I Wish I Was Good Looking In A Boy Band Kind Of Way' has touches of Artic Monkeys about it albeit slightly more polished and more professional sounding. It's a catchy little number with a great 60's rock'n'roll chant of 'Do you want me to stop?// Do you want me to stop?' Great stuff!

Apparently second song 'Over So Soon' was featured on Xfm Unsigned to a '..astonishingly indifferent reaction..', and it's this tongue-in-cheek honesty that you can't help but like. This is a more rocking tune starting with a frantic guitar riff that turns into dirty rock. The chorus is a line that I've never had said to me by anyone other my mate's dad, 'Why d'ya have to be so gorgeous?// Why d'ya have to turn me on?'. The third verse is great with the bass and drums in harmony whilst the lyrics are belted out before the guitar kicks back in for the chorus.

Last song 'Idiots' has echoes of Placebo arm-wrestling with The Killers whilst Franz Ferdiand are searching for Motorhead who have obviously passed out in the pantry with Bowie...

This week has already seen Goodbye Sergeants be Featured Artist of the Week on A&R Website for unsigned bands, and Rich also mentions some possible American A&R interest and is suitably chuffed at being played on the airwaves of New York and LA last weekend. Good work, fellas!

The Goodbye Sergeants seem to be a much needed bridge between indie and rock and as such could give them a whole army of adoring fans. Only time will tell but on the basis of this they're climbing up to the top of the mountain and it all looks good!
