One For The Collectors
Having spent the first half of the year touring their biggest album to date, 'Mr Beast', Glaswegian post-rock collective Mogwai have returned with an EP offering. Sadly 'Travel Is Dangerous' offers no new material from the godfathers' of post-rock depression but instead fans are treated to an album track, a couple of remixes and of course the obligatory live tracks just to show what they've been doing with their time.
Taken from 'Mr Beast', 'Travel Is Dangerous' is miserable post-rock in all its downtrodden splendour. Technically wonderful and perfectly broody, 'Travel Is Dangerous' lays forth Mogwai's multilayered soundscape craftsmanship in all its glory with the added bonus of nervously ominous vocals.
Receiving the remix treatment are 'Auto Rock' and 'Friend Of The Night' which are both meticulously done if somewhat mediocre whilst fan favourite 'Like Herod' shines in all its sulking grandeur whilst live 'We're No Here' reaches the epic proportions it has threatened to do in the past. As far as EP's go 'Travel Is Dangerous' provides nothing new for Mogwai fans and certainly those unaccustomed with the Glaswegian's may simply overlook it. In short this is probably one for the collectors only.
