Shimmering Indie
The 'Long Throw specialist' remix on the promo disc sees seering electronica meet lazy, deep and insightful vocals in a bizarre marriage that sees the insist lack of feeling from the synths setting the emotional melody off in an odd but interesting way. Then I discover that this ultra-edgy version on my stereo is nothing like the real single, which I track down with ease on the band's My Space and discover to be a more guitar-based but equally charismatic and nervy with warm, jangly brassy vibes. Shimmering strings flit over pulsing tom toms giving the tune an epic feel, which the remix certainly lacks.
'It's Getting Light Outside' is a fabulous single with enough depth and sincerity to threaten Pulp, The Smiths and more, as well as wonderful instrumentation with the strings and revved up guitars powering the tune along. Evidently the band wanted to keep the real version from us writer-types to avoid the secret getting out too soon!
