Snow Patrol have it all, but have they lost something to get it?
Snow Patrol have been enjoying success left, right and centre since the release of their new album Eyes Open, and 'Chasing Cars' is the latest single to be taken from it. It comprises of all the qualities that make Snow Patrol a modern anthemic tour de force; the slow build of single guitar riff into a track laden with an array of instruments pushing out an emotion-driven and powerful tune, Gary Lightbody's sensuous voice and it's caressing of the nostalgic and melancholically hopeful lyrics, and just the pure sound of Snow Patrol, which is so recognisable a thing in music today you can't but win with it.
However it doesn't match the poignancy of its counterpart from last album Final Straw 'Run'; 'Chasing Cars' is a fine song in itself and once you've heard it you shan't forget it, but even with this great spate of quite deserved buzz around them it feels as if there's just something a little lacking from Snow Patrol's new release...
