Arty, Shoegazing Musings
Ahead of their performance at this year's Carling Festival and after a lot of hype and a Columbia Records signing, GoodBooks release download single 'Turn It Back'. A choppy, anxious arty backing full of shuffling synths and mellow, rocking guitars takes on its own pace beneath the nervous indie ramblings. 'Turn It Back' is a great, jangly indie single with some trippy electronic trickery to keep the listener on their toes. "I have a fear of flying though I've jumped from the sky," ponder the twinkling lyrics.
Though this single has a brisk, buoyant pace and definite charm, it would be likely to blend into the similar indie stylings of Bloc Party and other introspective, creative artists at the moment, so here's hoping that GoodBooks can pull something more solid and real hook out of the bag next time.
