All These Bands really do Sound the Same
Featuring on the 'Snakes On A Plane' soundtrack, The Academy Is are bound to cash in on the hype and craze of the summer, as the Internet and those that live on it have been taken over by Samuel L Jacksons latest opus.
The new single 'The Phrase That Pays' is also likely to win them over new fans, as it's a fairly strong single, no doubt adding to the "is it, isn't it emo?" debate that is raging up and down the length of the country...oh wait, the length of the NME.
Ticking all the boxes with whiny vocals but a very catchy chorus, the scratchy guitars that hum and hover in the background before making a big dash for freedom and backing vocals that wouldn't be out of place in the 1960's, there is a likeable element to this song, even if the band comes across as just another faceless and dull American rawk act out to steal our pennies and free time away.
And if you like that, then great, this will be right up your boulevard and you can jump and pogo to your hearts content. If however you wish for a bit more, you'll just about like this song when it comes on the radio...then again, any song which blocks out the mindless drone of morons like Chris Moyles or Vernon Kaye can only be viewed as a positive.
So there you have it, Snakes On A Plane and respite from the rise of the idiots, that's enough to give any bunch of whining Americans the thumbs up.
