A Pretty Nifty Tune
Now either the Aussie quartet are telling whopping great big lies or they are psychic masterminds who have their fingers so firmly on the pulse of the music scene today that they can simply reel off a made for radio track in the same amount of time it takes the rest of us to make a cup of tea. 'Don't Listen To The Radio' has been made for the alternative rock radio audience stapled firmly to its grunge pop beats and what's more it's a pretty nifty tune too.
Branching slightly away from the traditional Vines sound, 'Don't Listen To The Radio' flaunts a subtle 60s tinged start complete with hand claps and vocal harmonies that effortlessly creep into your subconscious. Then comes the chorus. Sure, it may not be the full out thrash of grunge meets garage rock that we've come to know and love The Vines for but there's something to be said for their melodious grunge pop. Catchy and sprightly, 'Don't Listen To The Radio' is a swift dose of Nirvana slapped with the catchiness of The Hives before being slimmed down to a rock pop beat. They have been missing for two years but The Vines are most defiantly back and sure to be blasting from every alternative rock station from here on in.
