Dan Sartain - Join Dan Sartain
Alabama's favourite export is back, 23-year-old Dan Sartain returns with his new album 'Join Dan Sartain LP'.
The man that was labelled 'the post punk Johnny Cash' has written and before all the tracks on this album apart from 'Second Coming' an Alice Cooper cover and 'Besa Me Mucho' written by Consuelo Velazquez in the 40s. Dan's music sounds quite different to the majority of stuff around today; 'Totem Pole' for example sounds like it has been lifted from a spaghetti western film. It is packed full of twanging guitars and castanets. Dan also approaches a subject that a lot of over musicians shy away from; politics.
'Thought It Over' sees him come over all serious to tackle paying rent, taxes, and the minimum wage, you could be forgiven for thinking that Preston from The Ordinary Boys is singing this track as their voices sound very similar. One thing that does confuse me slightly on this album is 'Shenanigans' a word I'm guessing Dan picked up while on tour over here because I've never heard an American use it. Dan seems to think it means murder and adultery, which really doesn't tie in with the way we would use the word.
If you listen to Radio 1 then you've probably already heard Dan's new single 'Replacement Man' which was Colin Murray's record of the week. With Dan's catchy, upbeat retro sounding music it wont be long until he is a house hold name.
