The name may not be the nature this time round
'Take A Chance' is everything we've come to know, love and expect from the Magic Numbers, for theirs is a sound so instantly recognizable that radio presenters around the country can go for a tea break when this one comes on.
Even when it was being heard by many for the first time at the V Festival, it was clear this would become a classic in the same way that 'Love Me Like You' and 'Forever Lost' have done.
'Take A Chance' hits you, or rather nudges you gently but firmly, with the band's characteristic harmonies, before sliding effortlessly into melodic, catchy verses and a chorus that will take up residence in your head so quickly that by the second listen it's demanding priority of the TV remote and deciding what take away it'll be tonight.
It could be argued that this isn't exactly a bold step into the unknown for the band, but as I've often said, if you've a great song up your sleeve that sticks to the same formula that people are used to, what the hell! An anthem is an anthem no matter how many times it has been done before.
Their set at V suggested the new record has plenty of up beat tracks on offer, or maybe that's just the ones they decided to share on that Saturday afternoon in Chelmsford. Their second album is due out early November.
