Firing on all cylinders
"Ahahahahahahaha" - that's the sound of me laughing my arse off at the cracking opening few bars to Gentlemans Pistols' super limited (300 copies only) and resolutely ace tour single 'Just A Fraction'. With Wolfmother spear-heading a seventies inspired blues/hard rock revival what better time for Gentlemans Pistols to arrive on the scene with err.. all guns blazing.
'Just A Fraction' is big, dumb, rock fun that's based around the kind of rip-snorting riff most bands would sell their grandmother for; make no mistake this is a colossal beast of a tune. Think early Black Sabbath crossed with the good bits of The Datsuns and a dash of Zeppelin styled flair and you're close to the genius of this tune. The slow, sleazy blues grind of 'Heavy Petting' is similarly inspired and provided the band can maintain such high standards over the course of a whole album, they could become serious contenders in 2007.
