Dirty youngsters.

The biggest surprise here is that someone from Dundee feels it necessary to comment that they've had the same jeans on for four days, unless they are boasting in comparison to their friends who have broken through the week barrier without hitting the showers. Hoho, and with that piece of cultural stereotype (based on Dundee's own Oor Wullie and The Broons who haven't changed clothes in over 60 years and not any current incumbent of the city) The View have been making rather large waves in 2006 and the year ahead only seems to offer bigger breakthroughs.

The best thing about 'Same Jeans' is that it stands out from the rest of The View's arsenal. For hardcore fans, their shows are a non-stop rock n roll riot but to the uninitiated, it's easy to see it as Kings of Leon's reserve side bashing out similar variations on a theme. 'Same Jeans' has a more woozy and lighter feel and offers welcome relief from the more traditional fare served up. The vocals have the same youthful twang and of course the guitars are spiralling all over the place but they are kept in check, allowing the song some space and for the melody to shine. The song also tips a nod to the name of their forthcoming debut album with the line "take my hat off to the busker man" almost forming the title, so that's a handy piece of product placement right there.

The harmonica works quite sweetly and overall, it's a light and poppy single which should be in your ears quite often in this quiet New Year period.

To launch the New Year and the debut album, it works well and the guaranteed airplay and video rotation should see the band rack up another hit and set them up nicely for a year where they will make a splash but shouldn't become one of the major acts of the year. Time and enthusiasm is on their side though.
