Promising single from young Mancunian.
During the past few years we have seen the charts and radio waves dominated by soulless singer-songwriters attempting to capture hearts in order to steal our banknotes and garner awards. On the other side of the spectrum there are intelligent, honest artists such as Patrick Wolf, Jeremy Warmsley and Sam Duckworth (AKA Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly) who have not only made valiant efforts to win our affections but have done so with sincerity and a spark of originality. Liam Frost, seems destined to join the latter group based on this single. 'She Painted Pictures', is an optimistic sounding pop song, laden with acoustic guitar and gentle piano being met with passionate vocals.
'(Are You) the One That I've Been Waiting For' is more experimental with its use of sampled drumbeats and a violin. Frost's voice is tender and emotive yet never sentimental, and his brand of indie-folk sounds promising. After the release of his debut album in 2006 there's no reason why he shouldn't be well on his way to success in 2007.
