Single from Alabama-based artist

Dan Sartain is odd to pinpoint on the musical map, weaving aspects of cabaret and a baroque style, as well as being described as "the punk Elvis" by ID magazine. The Alabama born singer recorded 'Flight of the Finch' at London's legendary Toe Rag studios, with The White Stripes producer Liam Watson.

The title track is a rockabilly meander musing on fidelity, making a nice use of trumpets and classical instruments, with Sartain's deep voice crooning the song along. There's something about Sartain reminiscent of a brighter and less throaty Nick Cave, with the same kind of darkness at the song's core.

B-side 'Besame Mucho' is a similar pace, with a Tango-style tune that attempts to seduce the listener. Although a little too dark sounding for my tastes, this single is nevertheless an interesting one and should succeed in helping Dan Sartain closer to mainstream consumption when it is released on the One Little Indian label.
