Capdown - Wind-Up Toys
The mighty Capdown return to the record store shelves with a brand spanking new album called 'Wind-Up Toys'. Things have been quiet on the album front for The Milton Keynes five piece for the last few years, now they return with a CD packed full of twelve new tracks including December's comeback release 'Keeping Up Appearances' and the recent download only single 'Home Is Where The Start Is'.
Their return also welcomes newcomer Eddie (Keyboards/samples) to the band. Fear not fans, the new member doesn't mean their sound has changed too much and this is more than obvious on the tracks 'No Matter What' and 'Blood, Sweat And Fears', which both sound like classic Capdown songs. However we do see an angrier side to the band with the title track although the ska edge the band love is still there. The album was produced by Hundred Reason's Larry Hibbitt, and I cant help but wonder how much input he had in their new sound, opening track 'Truly Dead' shows off Jake's vocal range in a way that we haven't heard before and 'Thrash Tuesday' is a short blast of musical mayhem.
Yet again, Capdown are showing progression, but at some points it leaves you feeling a little flat and at times you could be forgiven for thinking that your listening to any old American punk band. Nevertheless I think this is Capdown's best album to date, their music has a new depth and diversity and Jake has learnt to make the most of his voice.
