Unadulterated Fun And Frivolity
So, if the Artic Monkeys are writing songs for the everyday man, telling harsh tales of life in the modern world and if the likes of Pete Wentz and co. have the heartfelt dredges of emo oozing from every pore, what else is there really left to write songs about? Why dropping your phone of course! New York outfit, Shy Child have finally taken it upon themselves to write the soundtrack to that age old problem of dropping your mobile phone on a night out, crushing acid bass lines with a 1980s electronica beat in the process whilst niftily throwing in a cowbell just for the fun of it. And yes, fun is most definitely the order of the day with this group, but then what do you expect from a band who pen a single in which every lyric is purely about mobile phones? It's unapologetic escapism in its purist form as the duo even manage to use the long since forgotten instrument flaunted so proudly by all the trend setters of the 1980s, none other than the keyboard guitar – surely they deserve top marks for this fact alone. Completely lacking in all seriousness and bursting with a childlike playfulness, 'Drop The Phone' is unadulterated fun and frivolity at its best.
