Poppy genre hybrid.

Love them or hate them, that seems to be the way with Gym Class Heroes, their mix of indie/ emo/ r 'n' b/ soul and hip hop (with the emphasis on the later) thrills or intensely irritates in equal measure depending on where you stand.

'Cupid's Chokehold' from the album "As Cruel As School Children" is released on DecayDance, home to Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy (and founded by Pete Wentz) and is the perfect home for their poppy hybrid. Basically, it's mainstream dance bunkum passed off as some kind of 'cool' quirky indie-pop-rock thing.

This single features a reggae beat, a cheesy sample from 1979 track 'Breakfast In America' by Supertramp and the usual knowing attempt at ironic lyrics. It's either annoyingly catchy or brilliantly original – you decide, but it covers so many genres it's hard to see who it's meant to be aimed at... fans of Pete Wentz perhaps.
