First UK release of recent album from Swedish indie popsters.
After the success of their last album 'Writer's Block' comes the debut UK release of Peter, Bjorn and John's previous effort, 'Falling Out'. The album has the addition of five bonus tracks, bringing the total to an off putting fifteen.
Luckily this album begins well, with the 80s-inspired electronic opening of 'Far Away, By My Side', a lovely, light and ultimately appealing shimmering indie pop song. After their loveable opener the trio have won me over, meaning all that remains is for them to maintain my interest.
'Falling Out' is the type of album which is most definitely a 'grower'. Something which is often the case with bright indie like this, but the album is certainly worth investing some time in, not least because once you settle into it this collection of songs will seem as comfortable as a well-loved jacket.
The songs on display here all well crafted pop morsels, catchy enough to listen to time and again without seeming forced or trite. The heavy tambourine use is an interesting quirk and adds a very 60s meets 70s slant to the proceedings, showing the band have run the musical gauntlet and created a timeless sound. Things lose their way a little towards the end, and the additional tracks are the obvious weak point, but that aside this album is a winner with much breezy appeal.
