Bordering on the excellent.

The NME Indie Rave tour managed to confirm a few things about some of the line-up. It was always expected that Klaxons had a bunch of tunes that could cause carnage in a venue and the previous summer, CSS managed to show that they were one of the best bands around to create a party vibe. So far, so much as expected, however, when it comes to The Sunshine Underground, it may just seem that they are act to benefit the most from the tour.

With an album out since 2006, there may have been a feeling that the band would be looking to head back to the studio but the success of their shows appears to have breathed further life into the act and their new single 'Borders', is well placed to capitalise on their upturn in fortunes.

As a representation of their live shows, its a pretty fair effot, combining the feel good energetic vibe but managing to marry it to the conventional stylings of a song. The guitar features prominently throughout, chugging away when the vocals are up to the fore but ringing loudly at all other times.

The song may be about the borders and walls that people can put up at times, perhaps to protect themself or to lock others out but the single manages to act as a welcoming call to arms for The Sunshine Underground. Its commercial, its got a decent singalong section and nice backing vocals and sits well in the current climate of bands that attempt to blur the lines between indie and dance.

They may be anything but New Rave but The Sunshine Underground are deserving of some attention at the moment.
