Tonight Matthew I'm going to be Steven Tyler!
'Be What You Want' is the third single to be taken from The Answer's debut album 'Rise'. This Northern Irish bands previous releases have drawn favourable comparisons to the likes of Led Zeppelin but on first impression 'Be What You Want' sounds more like old touring partners The Darkness. It has that distinct bridging chord change that The Darkness were so fond of and whilst it works well as a tune it does nothing to change the opinion of some that they wear their influences a little too heavily on their sleeve. I'm inclined to agree with that view, as tribute acts aside I've never heard a band so devoid of any originality. That said you have to concede that they do it extremely well and let's face it, I'd rather watch these guys doing their own material than any tribute band. Taken as a stand-alone song 'Be What You Want' is a fair offering, upbeat and with a good vibe it will no doubt get the crowd swaying in unison at gigs.
The Aerosmith cover 'Sweet Emotion' pushes the point a little further although again it's excellently done and Cormac Neeson turns in a pretty stunning vocal performance. The digital release features the bonus of an acoustic version of previous single 'Into the Gutter' and a live version of album track 'No Questions Asked'.
