Bruce Dickinson approved metal.
Serpico's debut EP is a refreshing slice of well crafted tuneful metal with a surprisingly slick production. The Scottish four piece have created a dirty, dark yet uplifting metal sound that veers from massive and heavy to fuzzy and intimate from moment to moment but means business at all times; no messing about, just heavy riffs powerfully gruff vocals and excellent melodies.
The rich fuzzy sound on this excellent four track EP is evidently grunge inspired to a certain degree, (think a much, much heavier Nirvana), but it also has a really fresh edge that brings to mind hook laden melodic metal like Avenged Sevenfold. It's great to hear new British metal of this quality and luckily Serpico do all this without any of the over the top bluster, stupid haircuts and pop star pretensions that so many bands seem to think are necessary, this EP is a triumph of music over style; good tunes, sing along choruses and heavy guitars.
