I know I shouldn't, I know I shouldn't, but I really like it...
Oh yay, The Rakes have released another single, that Arctic Monkeys rip-off band who style themselves as a cross between Pulp and the Now... Oh, wait, this is fucking ace!! The time has come when we can unashamedly sweep '22,000 Jobs' under the carpet and revert to what we were all thinking before that came out, that The Rakes have really got on the go.
And more than that, 'We Danced Together', as much as you can find contrived pop essentials in there, and a little pseudo-middle-finger lyricism, is a really strong track. A song that has borrowed from all the right places with a courteous nod, rather than a sneaky swipe, it's got the eighties vibe nailed and it's fighting back against this nu-rave lark like a steed with gritted teeth. Yes, this new single deserves some certain appreciation.
