Impressive Gait
'Cry It All Out' is the second album from London based Big Strides and follows on from selling a highly impressive 300,000 download copies of their debut single 'Suicidal' in the US alone.
The music is impossible to categorise really, which is a definite bonus for Big Strides. It has elements of many genres (jazz, funk, indie) but you couldn't say they fit comfortably into any of those genres. One element that remains constant throughout is a good beat, every song gets into it's own little groove and takes you with it. This is the perfect album to put on when you've got a few friends round and the beers are flowing. It's about as cool as it gets, there's just no way that you can instantly dismiss it or ignore it. The worst thing you could say about it is that you might have to be in the mood for it but two bars of 'She Drinks Whisky' is highly likely to put you in the mood!
Of the sixteen tracks on the album there are bound to be one or two that aren't quite as good, 'Do It Again' sounds like a short unfinished demo, 'So Long' and 'Smiling' are pretty standard fare. You're likely to forget these though when songs like 'Let's Get Nice' kick in, I think I shouldn't like this but it's so catchy and the drums are so gripping I just have to give in. Overll it's Infectious, funky, raw and in places damn sexy! Big Strides do something a little different and the world is a better place for it.
