Top notch from Malcolm M.

Malcolm Middleton has long been associated with swear words and cursing so it's good to see him have a bit of responsibility with the release of 'Beep Beep, I Love You', a censored version of an album track.

Those horrified at this can take solace in the songs true origins being 'Fuck It, I Love You' and Middleton being the same old chap we've loved.

Which, to be fair, isn't exactly true as Arab Strap had a reputation for being miserable blighters and this single has a jaunty edge to it. The chiming and ringing guitar merge with Middleton and Jenny Reeves (a credible talent in her own right) duet ting on the chorus and theres a hopeful air to the track. The guitar surge in the solo may take it away from a schmaltzy love track but gives it an edge that is instantly likeable.

As edgy and creative as ever, Middleton has done enough to be proud of his past career and to be recognised as a solo artist in his own right. Whether it's the censored or sweary version that rocks your boat, both are likely to have whistling through your day. Just be careful if you choose to sing the album version in public, there is a time and a place for everything.
