Charming Indie Pop
Snow is a truly magical substance that inspires excitement, annoyance and an entire range of emotions, of which awe is always a component. The Library Trust's take on this is to slow things down and remove the extremities of feeling; their record has the sound a single person gazing from a window with no care in the world, just the careful thoughts of a spectator. Each very deliberate note of 'My Town On TV' appears to be preceded by an element of nervous anticipation, making its arrival as exciting and fresh as that of the last. The jangly guitar backing helps to create this moderated sense of charming calm. Do you remember the Nizlopi tune about the boy on his dad's tractor? Well this tune has the same blissful sense of amazement in its tone, and the same beautiful acoustic guitars, but without the corniness.
B-Side, 'As Broken As You Think' has a little more gusto, launching into a lifting chorus of, "You're not as broken as you think", which truly has the power to stir even the most downtrodden heart from its melancholy mire. There are also some stunning lines, such as, "There's nothing as romantic as failure". Out of the two tunes, this is the one that really inspires the listener with the same bright, but quirky feel as Belle and Sebastian at their finest.
