Single from Finnish band.
After releasing two albums and a variety of singles in their native Finland, Husky Rescue release the single 'Caravan', taken from their 2007 album 'Ghost Is Not Real'. The band's own description of their sound is "fragile folk, cinematic moods and up-tempo rock you can tap your feet to".
'Caravan' begins with an immediate sense of ambiance, with soft, swooning electronica synchronised with sweet female vocals reminiscent of The Cardigans Nina Persson. The song's tempo is rather languid and this remains the same throughout. Unless all of Husky Rescue's material is similarly slow this seems an odd choice for a single, particularly for a band with little or no established fan base in the UK. Next follows a remix of 'Caravan', which rather predictably adds a few beats over the top of the original song but fails to speed it up considerably.
'Shadow Run' (Album Mix) features next, and is rather difficult to distinguish from its predecessor. This song also appears to be in no real hurry to progress or develop and an extended intro of one and a half minutes has a frustrating impact. The vocals here are more spoken word in style and are coupled with rather robotic sounding male vocals, which combine to steer the music in a more heavily electronic direction.
Husky Rescue are likely to be a band whose impact builds slowly due to the rather lengthy and rambling progression of their music. If laidback electronics appeal then it might be worth paying attention to the release of this single as otherwise the band are in danger of slipping through the musical cracks.
