A storm to get carried away in.

When a band comes along with a name referring to a phenomenon of weather that is known to cause storms, you can't help but raise a curious eyebrow.

Much like their complex and unpredictable namesake, the Glasgow band's EP title track 'Some Blue Hive' crams in countless musical fluctuations that takes you on a journey, enticing with its cleverly structured synths and rock style. From its rousing opening and throughout, its intensity is comparable to being caught in the storm of the NAO.

It's a system that could of course go horribly wrong, with the possibility of trying to get too much down in under four minutes. Yet it all comes together in a medley ringing true to obvious influences such as the Sigur Ros and Radiohead.

It's clear from the evidence of their EP that North Atlantic Oscillation have plenty ideas to share and continue to pack into their tracks. 'Some Blue Hive' is a cleverly pieced together track which doesn't fail to grab the attention, and on this standard, they could certainly pick up a good few disenchanted followers of a sadly missed local soundalike.
