Downbeat indie.
These kids are all under 20 years old and you know something, they really don't sound too happy with it all. At that age, life really should be about living it up, taking crystal meths to fuel a weekend of debauchery and chasing a different girl every night – that's what being young is for. Not for Eight Legs though, they have a melancholic outlook on life and 'Blood, Sweat Tears' could not be downbeat if it tried.
The vocals from Sam Jolly (haha, that's ironic) may be trying to sound like that Robert Smith downbeat vibe but it comes across as not being bothered and is likely to turn listeners off.
Tragically, the melody is very familiar to a rubbish Spice Girls song (really, they had some poor ones alongside all they amazing hits they had), the slow one with the latino tinge, anyway, it doesn't lend itself well for a guitar band.
B-side 'Hopes Away' is slightly livelier – that may not be the biggest compliment considering the slowness of the lead track but there is at least something to grab onto here.
On the whole, the two songs are rather disappointing and have very little about them to recommend. There is that early 1980s indie guitar feel to them but its all been done before and a million times better than what you have here, so if that's what you like, go and listen to that instead.
