Mean fiddlers...
Well, what can you say to a country-redneck-banjo playing cover of Judas Priest's classic song, 'Breaking The Law'?! This is exactly what the now infamous hillbillies from Deer Lick Holler, Tennessee give us in this single.
There is some obvious talent in being able to swap guitars and bass for fiddles and banjo, giving songs that normally rely on big heavy riffs some extra magic. I am well and truly undecided about Hayseed Dixie. The problem is that they are a novelty act, and like all novelty acts once you've heard the joke a handful of times it becomes less amusing. I remember Beavis, from Beavis & Butthead fame chanting this chorus, and that too was amusing for the first couple of times, but later on it just became annoying like dance music, shell suits and Popswatches...
Hayseed Dixie have done some great covers in their time – Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs' being one of them, but I'm afraid there will be too many people that just won't get this band, and that's a shame because musically they are very talented. And this is also a band that seems to be constantly touring their incestuous asses all over the globe on some straw sucking crusade. Maybe I just think that they are a poor man's version of our very own cider-swigging heroes, The Wurzels, who knows?
Unfortunately after half a dozen plays I was looking at, "Breaking the disc, breaking the disc!"
