Slight return

When indie stalwarts The Delgados decided to call it a day in 2005 after five albums of undeniable quality (head to your local record store and pick up the whole back catalogue!) there was barely a dry eye in the Room Thirteen (indie) house. Every cloud has a silver lining though and the return of one of the leading Delgados – Emma Pollock – is a most welcome one round these parts.

Comeback single "Adrenaline" is an elegantly under-stated beauty that's oddly reminiscent of former 4AD outfit Belly. Guitars tumble over cascading piano and Pollock is still blessed with one of the most heart-wrenching voices in indie rock, this really is pretty swoon-some stuff. The 'A' side alone would be enough to sustain most mere mortals for a few months but the folksy acoustic gem on the flip-side "A Glorious Day" makes this R13 writer more than a little excited about her forthcoming full-length release. Let's hope that we're not left disappointed, on this evidence it seems highly unlikely.
