Going it alone

'Arms Around Your Love' is the first single from Cornell's second solo album, although those getting 'Carry On' will find a certain Bond theme near the end of the LP.

Chris Cornell needs no introduction as he is one of America's best rock vocalists of the past decade and beyond, and it is the voice that surves as the connection to his previous work for this new work is very different from Audioslave or Soundgarden.

'Arms Around Your Love' would be put in the soft rock box and is perfectly designed for radio. It is likely that fans of Cornell's previous bands might not find this to their liking, but free from the need to conform to certain expectations and answering only to himself, Chris Cornell is trying out a more mellow approach with some success. OK so some may label this as the kind of single Bryan Adams or Bon Jovi might release and it's up to you whether you think that will put you off.

This track is far from ground breaking, but is a strong, easily accessible taster for his first solo material since the end of Audioslave.

'Arms Around Your Love' is out this week (May 21), with the album to follow at the end of the month.
