Welsh wonders

Bear with me a moment while I give my air guitar to my virtual roadie for restringing. There, sorted, I needed to do that as I've worn the thing out playing along to this album, for a while now guitar solos in songs have been coming back into fashion. Fear factory killed them off in the nineties but they were just biding their time until a new generation was ready to rediscover them, the time is now. Go forth and shred.

The guitar work on this album hits you like a tyre recycling unit such is the shredding power on display, but don't for one second think that this means they have harked back to some bygone age of metal. This is as up to date as you could get with powerhouse production, a bass drum sound people would chew their arm off for and vocals aggressive enough to frighten anyone who thinks Iron Maiden are heavy.

This is Anteriors debut album, something that just doesn't add up considering how utterly fucking brilliant it is, it seems they're around 21 years of age too, the record company should check that this wasn't done by much older session musicians instead because it is a totally mature piece of work that completely belies their tender years. How can you write a song like 'Dead Divine' at 21? It's a striking piece of music with an outro bands write after they've been doing it for a long time.

Anterior, which means 'at/towards the front', are from Wales, that hive of metal, second only to Sweden in metal per square inch. Well, say what you like they've done their country proud, delivering a blistering album that is pure heavy thrash metal with a harsh singing frontman that fits the modern sound like a glove and those guitar solos, bloody hell they're awesome, they smack of Dream Theaters John Petrucci at times and I don't think I can give a better compliment than that.

I noticed on their myspace page that they're looking for a bass player at the moment, if you've got the skills get on board now because I can't believe this band isn't going up in the metal world soon, if you're a fan of quality metal that kicks the shit out of your speakers then go out and buy this album now, support these guys so they can have Dragonforce supporting them instead of the other way around, anyone with half a brain can tell they've more creativity in one song than the force have managed to put into two albums. Buy it, buy it, buy it.
Roadie! Where's my air guitar?
