Electric Edginess
Blaring guitars, anxious female vocal harmonies not too dissimilar to The Long Blondes and electric intensity, Blood Red Shoes are surely onto a good thing. Although they do a pretty poor job of convincing us that it may be boring by the sea; anywhere with writhing guitars and pounding percussion as demonstrated here could never be accused of being dull! 'It's Getting Boring By The Sea' is a racy, rocker of a tune that simply drags you to the dancefloor with its insistent, sharp beats.
B-side, 'Box of Secrets' is a snarly mixture of overpowering guitarwork and leering vocals that take second place beneath the stabbing guitars and crashing cymbals, it's a little similar, in electro prowess to some of the tunes from Placebo's 'Sleeping With Ghosts' album. It's the typical experimental and unruly bside, but it brings more than a frisson of excitement with its ferocious feel.
