Exclamation mark!!!!!!

'Stutter' is the third single to be ripped off Kubichek!'s debut album 'Not Enough Night' (a great title I'm sure you'll agree) and while it's only available as a download or on limited edition 7" (which I reckon is a bit poncy) it's not half-bad and definitely worthy of investigation.

Dominated by crushing pop riffs, urgent single note guitar licks, a pounding bass and frankly insane drumming, 'Stutter' sounds a bit like Shed Seven...something that I'd usually find inexcusable. However - just to clarify - three qualities sets Kubichek! way above Rick Witter's abominable excuse for a group: talent, bollocks and decent tunes.

'Stutter' is also that rare thing: a pop record with a lyrical honesty and sophistication that far outstrips the current crop of emo-indie crap currently shoring up the shuddering foundations of the Top 40. Listen to it once and you may miss it. Listen to it again however, and you'll realise how simply yet cleverly constructed the song actually is.

The allegorical use of a stutter is one that most bands couldn't even comprehend, nevermind utilise in such an intellectual manner. Yet the guys that comprise Kubichek! have obviously read more than one book (and probably ones a little more advanced than 'Meg and Mog') and are more than capable of using wit, pathos and an astute knowledge of the English language to get the point across.

Catch Kubichek! (I'm ignoring the ridiculous exclamation mark because I like the song) on tour around the UK this month - oh - and don't forget to pick up the single too. Aging gits like me will have to blow the dust off the turntable and try to find a grounding terminal, while I guess you nubile young scene-sters will have to find time in your busy Facebook/myspace schedules to actually listen to some music rather than merely dressing up to fool people into thinking that you do.

Either way, just get hold of a copy will you?
