Dark Tranquility take no prisoners on new EP

Having now been going for fifteen years, Dark Tranquility's name is etched into the mind of every melodic metal fan in every country of the world. They've become as essential to any metal collection as Children of Bodom and In Flames, and judging by the new EP the kings of the genre aren't ready to put the crown down just yet.

The new single has, apart from an excellent CD case cover, more time signatures than a 12 minute Dream Theater epic, yet still employs the face-ripping guitars we've all grown to love. Vocalwise, Mikael Stanne is, as usual, screaming and growling his way throughout the track in a refreshingly grating manner, and whilst Children of Bodom's Alexi Laiho might be jumping off the shout bandwagon, Dark Tranquility are sticking to their guns and blowing the hell out of their compotition.

Aside from the title track, the new EP has another new track, namely "Derivation TNB", which is very nice, an interesting remix which does seem somewhat overdone by their technical wizard, Mr. Brandstrom, and a rather unfortunate live track that does not do justice to the band due to a poor recording.

Arch Enemy and The Haunted are due to lay waste to London alongside Dark Tranquility. You do need to be there.
