Will it stick in your head?

The new Cornelius single? Well, it's a bit chaotic, like someone has taken a whole bunch of great ideas and decided to throw them all together like a musical Jackson Pollock creation. The crazy thing is, it manages to work. Room 13 recently interviewed Cornelius and if you still weren't convinced enough to check out an album, 'Gum' provides a mini bite of the mans talented output.

The energy of the track never relents and the stop-start vocal snippets create an urgency that can send any listener into a fevered state of affair. One listen is jittery enough but try and review the track over and over, it starts to seep into your brain. By the time the guitar freakout kicks in to provide a break from the driving rhythm its off-kilter noise actually provides a bit of relief.

B-side 'Cue' is more song-like, well more song-like for Cornelius, it's still hardly racing into a Fratellis style terrace anthem, it's akin to some of Radiohead's electronic warblings and the vocals do have that cracked fragility which Thom Yorke would deliver.

With UK record label problems who is to say when the man from Japan will be back on these shores but this is a likeable release which should give people something to listen to. It's nowhere near as commercial as some of the singles from a few albums back but its none the less likeable.
