Koopa – One Off Song For The Summer

Following the relative success of their record breaking debut, ('Blag, Steal & Borrow' was the first download only single from an unsigned band to break into the UK Top 40 when it charted at #31 earlier this year), pop-punk act Koopa have returned with another radio-friendly effort; 'One Off Song For The Summer'.

Recreating the commercialised bubblegum-punk sound that made McFly and Busted so popular, 'One Off Song For The Summer' is a predictable mid-tempo pop tune from a band whose target audience appears to be 13s and under. Employing simple yet catchy melodies, anthemic choruses and inoffensive lyrics sung with a charming Essex twang, Koopa have the potential to be a great gateway band for younger listeners, even if they lack the substance to keep the attention of seasoned music fans.

Lacking in musical originality, I fear Koopa have too little to offer those who have already listened to the likes of Blink 182 and Green Day. 'One Off Song For The Summer' is holiday-flavoured, light-hearted and in all honesty not that bad, however I doubt it has lasting appeal to anyone born after 1995.
