Real Talent
Scrim is a four-piece rock band that is about to set the world of music alight. Even though this is their debut track, or should it be tracks, they have defiantly been able to show they have talent. The first track, 'My Revolution' is a short sharp blast of rock in its purest form. After a hard rock opening come some talented guitar riffs that will pound into your head, and get your toes tapping. The electric guitar solo is especially outstanding and really pulls the track to its best. Musically the track is very well put together. The chorus, if it can be called that with all of one line, doesn't really stand out. Vocalist, Alek McGovern has very soft vocals, which is surprising in a rock track. At times it seems he is trying to be a bit more rock than his vocals can handle, but even thought this may sound like a criticism, in the eyes of this review, its actually really great. It's rocky, but has that alternate sound embedded in there.
The second track, 'Old School, is pretty much more of the same. The song, which is about being pressured into doing this you don't want to do, sounds as though it's going to be some 60s track by counting in, continues to be a pure rock track. The vocals are amazing, and can be heard very clearly due the music ceasing when the verse is going. There is infectious rhythm in this twisted 21st century homage to The Who. The band is putting the finishing touches to their album, which if it follows these standards, will do amazingly well.
