Not easy being green.

The voice of Connor Deasy sounds so cracked and fragile, perhaps he had been drinking for a week straight before the recording of this song or perhaps it's just the band trying to tap into that lucrative Kermit the Frog market (probably better known as that Neil Young sound), but you know something, it aint easy being green! And it's not any easier being in The Thrills given the way the band dropped from view and public favour with their second album and even thought their latest record sounds as though they are heading back to what made their name, it's just seems too little to late.

To consider the track is called 'Nothing Changes Around Here' is full of so many entendres and ponderings that it would be remiss not to debate them. The musical world has changed since The Thrills caught that big wave, the brand of Americana light and heartfelt melodies were back in fashion and the time was right for a revival of bands like The Byrds, the Beach Boys and CS&N and the Thrills timed it to perfection. In all honesty, their second album wasn't as bad as it has been received but times had moved on, and the times have moved even further away at this point in time. Electronoic screeching, emotional dark guitars and plenty of style are the order of the day for the record buying public of today. Perhaps there is that growing middle-age and middle-class record buyers (the ones that Michael Eavis discussed as taking over America) who will still be looking for this type of record in their collection or for live shows but theres so many classic albums of this ilk available that The Thrills are not only competing against their peers but over 40 years of melodic sunshine light rock.

And the very fact that this song is being considered as being worthy of a mention alongside these greats indicates that The Thrills arent doing much wrong, there's just a sense of "so what" about it all. What the future holds for The Thrills is hard to say but hopefully if they are continuing to enjoy themselves and are making a living, they will be able to stick around for quite a while.
