Get out of the shadows.

Thankfully Ian Astbury has left the old-time revival show that is Riders on The Storm and returned to the act that made his name, The Cult, a band who straddled UK credibility and US massive rock legend, the man has a voice to match his own history and wasn't needing to follow in the bloated footsteps of Jim Morrison. Another step on his path to freedom finds Astbury hooking with Unkle and proving the vocals for a swirling psychedelic number called 'Burn My Shadow.'

With James Lavelle still powering the Unkle ship, the quality of the beats are pretty guaranteed and the juddering percussion behind the track powers a reasonably radio friendly snippet but you get the impression this track would become a behemoth in the live or club arena.

Theres a murky similarity to some of the Ian Brown Unkle material so existing fans will be on safe ground here but with some horror-film esque keyboard runs and an intriguing middle section breakdown theres a lot of variety in ideas to keep it all interesting.

For those who are sounding this still being a bit too rocky for their liking, the 'Unkle Surrender Sounds Session #5' version of the track breaks it down into something a bit more familiar ground for James Lavelle. You can almost taste the smoke machine and lasers as the track darkly menaces through its ten minute duration.

For all that it sounds like previous moments from Unkle, there isn't too much like it around that's going to get a sniff of the commercial charts so this might be your only chance to check this sort of stuff out. Its well worth a listen.
