You can twist my sister one more time!
For those who don’t who Twisted Sister are, they were one of the originators of hair metal alongside Motley Crue. Their tongue and cheek brand of sleazy rock n roll made Jon Bon Jovi look like Cliff Richard. They, along with ZZ Top, were one of the first rock bands to gain coverage on the then newly created MTV with the rock anthem “I Wanna Rock” and the down-right rebellious “We’re Not Gonna Take It”. Stay Hungry, their debut album sold over six million copies. The band recently reformed and re-recorded Stay Hungry as part of the twentieth anniversary package named ‘Still Hungry’ including bonus tracks from the original 1984 sessions as well as a set of brand new tracks and the previously released track “Heroes Are Hard To Find” from the Strangeland movie soundtrack.
The album is a tad nostalgic but it makes a difference to the bands today trying to replicate this old school trend. Like AC/DC, Twisted Sister have kept their sound the same which is a good thing considering the trap that other bands fall into: trying to keep up with the times. The songs on the record can have the samey effect if you expecting a varied record but the tempo is kept solidly start till finish. There are no syrupy rock ballads to get in the way luckily. First off, you might feel that Twisted Sister are among the many reformed bands banking on past glories for more record sales, but upon listening to Still Hungry these doubts are somewhat erased by the band’s brash energy.
Twisted Sister have their own following with the Murderdolls mostly recently paying tribute with the song “Twist My Sister”. If you want to see were the trashy gutter punk image came from check this record out.
