Australian duo Angus & Julia Stone have been over gaining fans on our fine shores for quite some time now, and they deserve every head they turn with tunes as smart as this. While "multi-instrumentalist" may be a term bandied around by every indie group since Arcade Fire, Angus and Julia Stone really use their array of talents to create tunes that have the right mix of instruments at the right time to create a real mood.
'Privates Lawns' is a sloping, sultry tune and the first release, which features Julia's soft-spoken vocals, here taking on a sinister edge before she returns to a woozy trumpet solo. "They've got public lawns and private parks," whispers the chorus conspiratorially over the terse drumbeat that makes up this tale of city living. Intertwining guitar beats move the tune along with to a begrudging beat and slightly Latin style. Angus and Julia Stone are one of this year's indie gems, check them out before they make it big!
