A Little Lacking

Lush vocal harmonies and breezy guitars with a tinge of retrospective sadness, 'Private Education' is a smooth pop tale that may be more likely to win over young indie fans' parents than the youngsters themselves, but it's far from a bad tune. The Australian singer/songwriter muses, "You can wear me round like your dress and I wouldn't mind", in this smart love song with school days analogies.

While 'Private Education' has plenty of potential with rich vocals and lovely instrumental backing, the combination of the two doesn't seem to go anywhere and rests in its bourgeois laurels rather than pushing the boundaries with any passion. It's a shame as Josh Pyke seems to have a lot to say with smart lyrics and it's a shame that most people just won't end up listening.
