Energy Yes, Sparkle No
With more energy than a three year old who has just discovered the wonder of E numbers, The Go! Team are bouncing back onto the scene with the latest release from their second album, 'Proof Of Youth'. 'Doing It Right' is as anthemically contagious and bursting with pogo – inducing vibrancy as Brighton's young gang bound about enthusiastically. As with any Go! Team track, 'Doing It Right' hovers tentatively and brilliantly on the edge of being a joyous pop throwback from the 80s when doing the double Dutch was all the rage whilst also verging on the brink of dissolving into a riotous romp. But then that's what The Go! Team do best. They mix garage with rap, throwing in some indie for fun before shovelling on the pop sensibility and perhaps this is where 'Doing It Right' finds its downfall. As wonderful a chant inducing track as it is, there's nothing really new being shown from the band making you feel that this could have easily been a lost track from their debut album.
Fun and vivacious as ever but just lacking that little sparkle to make it stand out on the playground.
