The Envy Corps - Rhinemaidens
The Envy Corps hail from Iowa, and have already opened for acts such as the Killers, but sound like the indie kids known as Modest Mouse. 'Rhinemaidens' is the second single to be taken from the band's upcoming debut album 'Dwell' and so far I'm impressed.
The tune seems to circulate around a surging riff which is beautifully over laid by frontman Luke Pettipoole's vocals. The band shun traditional song writing structures and create their own sound with vocals building into anthemic melodies. Towards the end of last month The Envy Corps had to cancel a London show because guitarist Brandon Darner suffered a stroke. It does seem slightly ironic that this track opens with the lyrics "I met you in the middle of a rain cloud" as for a lot of people this is the first time the will be hearing The Envy Corps, and sadly for the band it seems there are plenty of rain clouds present.
On a brighter note this song is fun and upbeat and makes for a great little listen, and I for one am looking forward to hearing their album when it's released next year.
The single is out on 8th October.
