Every Time I Die – The Big Dirty
Buffalo, New Yorks very own Southern Rock and grindcore boys Every Time I Die are back with their latest offering 'The Big Dirty' released on Ferret records.
Since the 4 piece began back in 1998 they have managed to release three previous full length albums one of which 2003's 'Hot Damn' brought the band to the very forefront of the heavy music scene. At this point ETID had made a definative name for themselves not only with their very own brand of metalcore but with their sense of humour as well. Unfortunately the bands following release Gutter Phenomenon failed to replicate this success, but with a new influence in the way of southern rock it did win them plenty of new fans and a whole new direction for the band.
Now their latest and fourth studio album 'The Big Dirty' opens up this new chapter further It's packed full of dirty hard hitting punk ass tunes, ferocious guitar riffage and that very familiar sense of humour.
Opening track 'No Son Of Mine' holds back little, it's an immediate brutal barrage of gutteral angst from vocalist Keith Buckley. This alongside Andy Williams and Jordan Buckley's unrelenting and violent guitars sets the record of to one hell of a start and it only gets better from there.
Track 2 Leatherneck straight away reminds me of Glassjaw's Daryl Palumbo with that slighty off key out of time melodic drawl.
The first single taken from the album is track 4 'We'rewolf' with that southern rock influence that wouldn't be out of place on a Bronx record. It's sleazy hardcore punk rock and roll and it will create debauchery.
Every Time I Die definitely havent lost their sense of humour and havent lost their ability to create their uniqe blend of filthy hardcore punk and roll. It's extremely catchy and it's the perfect soundtrack for a messy night. They sound like they have definitely had fun with this record and that's just what this band are about.
So I guess overall it's a pretty damn good effort especially if you like your music loud, in your face unashamed and with a sense of humour. Metal doesn't have to take itself so seriously, so lighten up, get a few beers in, listen to 'The Big Dirty' and turn it up loud!
For fans of Refused, The Bronx and Queens of the stone age and Glassjaw.
