Just More Bitching

Oh good, those Californian bad girl, man eating rock and roll rebels are back bitching about their lousy ex boyfriends for the 7th album in a row! With tracks called 'Bitchin' (also the album title) 'Girl Talk' and 'Give Me What I Want' these girls are definitely doing what all girls do best, bitching, gossiping and being demanding on their men.

The Donnas have been around for a while now and really have had a bit of a hard time of it. I guess this is because they have never really been taken seriously but always seen as a band to ridicule. What they do has always been seen as novelty but if you're going to sing songs such as '40 boys in 40 nights' and release records called 'The Donnas Turn 21' what exactly do you expect?

I'm surprised they're known by most as having a bad girl reputation, because I have never seen any example of this. For me they cannot seem to shake the image of a young girly rock band who sing about partying and ex boyfriends, probably because seven albums into their career when they've apparently supposed to have matured and grown confidence, they are still singing about partying and ex boyfriends! The only difference now is that they're doing it all on their own label, Purple Feather and the album is co-produced by Jay Ruston (The Polyphonic Spree, Meat Loaf)

Of course if you're a loyal Donnas fan you'll probably enjoy this album as not a lot has changed since their last effort. It's still got the girl power lyrics, the high-energy, fist pumping riffs and the punchy beats.... Oh and did I mention they sing about partying and ex boyfriends?

On a positive note they do appear to have transformed themselves from their early punkier days to all out party hard rockers, however the problem with them now is that the blatant clichés are unbearable. All I can say is don't take it seriously, it's 15 tracks of 3 minute bubblegum rock with such emotionally deep lyrics including "I'm being way too nice and you're as cold as ice" I guess you've just got to enjoy it for what it is, and that way you're sure to have a laugh at their innuendo laden lyrical content. Or maybe if you're a guy you just like seeing chicks with guitars in tight leather trousers.
