On the Road

Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder goes solo on this effort, taken from the soundtrack to the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's 'Into The Wild'. Thankfully his solo work bears little resemblance to Pearl Jam, sounding more like folk rock.

'Hard Sun' unsurprisingly features his distinct vocals over acoustic guitar and big drums. Strong female backing vocals help to fill out the sound and it's not a bad track by any means, neither though is it that great and after the first couple of minutes it seems to descend into something of a mantra with the chorus being repeated over and over.

Towards the end it fills out even more with the addition of some electric guitar but doesn't really progress beyond the mantra. As a song to accompany a film you can see how this would fit perfectly alongside the right piece of cinematography, as a stand alone song it's decent enough but without accompanying visuals it does get a tad boring after the half way mark.
