'Islands' is the debut single from The Favours, although since their inception in 2003 they have previously self released an album and a split EP. They've had a pretty impressive run with tours of the USA, spots at Electric Proms and even featuring in a TV ad!
'Islands' is likeable rolling indie with a decent vocal from sultry singer/guitarist Sara and a good, big chorus. It's a good catchy song with a big sound that manages to keep up the tempo and yet take down the tone in the verse before bringing it right back up in the chorus. If there's criticism to be had it's that the drums follow that same old shuffling indie beat a lot of the time but that's really a minor point as there's nothing dour, drab or shoe gazing about 'Islands'. It might not be in your face but it does have vibrancy and energy that is quite engaging and it will be interesting to see what else these guys can do.
