Not Entirely Radical But Very Pleasing
Jagged angular and overflowing with hooks more addictive than e numbers, Popular Workshop are onto another demure hit with 'William. It Was Really Something', by demure one must read that this tune won't be played on the radio, but it will be secreted away in the record collections of people who really love music who will whisk it out to soundtrack special moments. Isn't that what music's all about?
Stuttering percussive rhythms and a polished chorus that sounds as if it ought to be an effusive cry, but settles for a understated addition of, "William, it was really something", amidst the guitar jangling.
B-side, 'Radical' is infact quite radically different with more discord in the guitars in comparison to 'William..'s pleasant melody, it's a jarring mix of guitar stabs and half-shouted vocals with a gripping chorus. This is the more instantly engaging of the two tunes, but 'William. It Was Really Something' impresses fore more reasons that just its smart title.
